Date My County contest feels the love from around the world!

“I’m looking for that special someone.

Someone who’s up for fun. Craves adventure. Loves long strolls, and longer paddles. Someone who enjoys quaint road trips. Dabbled with all kinds of delightful detours. Someone who wants to mingle. Stay awhile, like a whole year. Is that you?”

Our team at Creative Good Inc. had a ton of fun collaborating with SDG Counties to promote their Date My County project this past fall.

This unique project is what made SDG Counties a recent finalist for the Economic Developer Council of Ontario (EDCO) Awards of Excellence, and we couldn't be happier to have been a part of the process!

They wanted to promote their once-in-a-lifetime contest for travel and show Canadians all that the region had to offer. The lucky winners of their campaign received $1500 per month to live in Stormont, Dundas or Glengarry for a whole year. The response was overwhelming. Despite the fact that the contest was only open to Canadian residents, people from around the world applied. They shared their dreams of a better life in a country they described as being a dream place to raise their families and start over.

“It felt like, suddenly, every part of the world knew where SDG Counties was. We began receiving applications from Mexico, Iraq, Switzerland and Hong Kong. We had numerous applications from the Middle East and as far away as Egypt and India,” said SDG Counties Manager of Economic Development Tara Kirkpatrick, who served as project coordinator for the contest.

“The goal of the Date My County campaign was to showcase the region to young families and working professionals who might want to relocate to the region. I think we can safely say that we hit that benchmark,” said SDG Warden Tony Fraser.

To emphasize their message of adventure, we highlighted shots of beautiful scenery, natural landscapes, and community to showcase appeal to the inner traveller inside everyone.

We wanted viewers to see the possibilities of what exploring SDG could bring. We met the locals, explored storied nooks, found historic settings, highlighted great little shops, went way off the beaten path and let the locals introduce their world, to the world.  A love match was struck ….and success!
